Georgia South Barbecue Sauce has been in the Richardson/Shropshire family for years. Mr. Sammie Shropshire remembers his grandfather standing over the hot stove for hours, preparing family meals. The favorite memory was July 4th when barbecue was on the menu and everyone would gather ’round to taste “Pa Pa’s” home cooking.
We decided to take grandfather’s recipe to the local market. “People immediately loved it. I’d put five or six jars on the shelf and they’d be gone.” He then decided there was a place for his grandfather’s sauce in the marketplace. With all the competition in barbecue sauce, in just four years, he has been successful in placing his grandfather’s recipe in 3,000 stores in seven states.
We make our sauce at our facility at 111 Mil Street in Barnesville, Georgia. It is an expensive, time consuming, and challenging process to get products on grocery store shelves. We have steadily grown over the since 1992 and we are continuing to put our sauces on family tables throughout the U.S.
What makes his sauce special? The family noted that a sauce doesn’t have to have a lot of fat or calories to taste good. His ingredients include tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, sugar, corn syrup, molasses, butter and spices.
